Bill Gates has stopped being the richest man alive for a few years now, mostly due to his philanthropy. He would be worth $88 billion today, well above his biggest competitors Carlos Slim and Warren Buffet, if he hadn't given away so much to philanthropic efforts. Forbes just reported Bill Gates is now the #2 richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of $56 billion. #1 is Mexico's Carlos Slim at $74 billion, and #3 is Warren Buffet at $45 billion.
